Until March 2026, Claude Pro in India ran on a ₹1,149/mo App Store tier — about $12.15 at today's rate, one of the lowest tiers Anthropic priced anywhere and roughly 39% under the US benchmark. That tier then jumped straight to ₹1,999/mo: a 74% increase in a single step, and the largest one-shot move in our recorded Claude history. Claude Max followed in June 2026 with a far smaller adjustment, ₹12,499/mo to ₹12,900/mo (+3.2%). The Pro move alone carried India out of the cheapest tier and into the middle of the table, #11 of 20.

At ₹1,999/mo — $21.14/mo — India now prices 6% above the US benchmark of $20.00/mo and 20% above Pakistan ($17.65/mo), while Denmark (25% VAT included) sits 32% above India at $27.82/mo. That US comparison flatters the US, though: India's ₹1,999/mo includes 18% GST while the App Store quotes US prices before state sales tax. Ex-GST the same subscription is ₹1,694/mo — about $17.92, or 10.4% below the US. And measured against local incomes rather than exchange rates, ₹1,999/mo is the equivalent of an American paying about $98.33 a month, roughly 4.9× the US benchmark. The hike closed a gap against the global tier; it did not close the one against Indian purchasing power.
